Job Overview
The Programming Intern will support Genmab's Application Performance Monitoring initiatives by contributing to the development and enhancement of New Relic-based dashboards and alerts. This role provides exposure to real-time monitoring of application availability, performance, and user experience across multiple enterprise platforms.
The intern will learn how synthetic monitoring, API checks, dashboards, and alerts are used to proactively detect issues, analyze performance trends, and support faster incident response. Working closely with architects, engineers, and platform teams, the intern will help translate technical metrics into actionable insights that improve system reliability and operational visibility.
What You'll Do
- Assist in designing, building, and enhancing application performance monitoring dashboards using New Relic.
- Support the definition and tracking of key performance and availability KPIs such as uptime, response time, page load metrics, and error rates.
- Help create and refine NRQL queries to retrieve, analyze, and visualize time-series performance data.
- Assist with configuring alerts and notifications for availability issues and performance threshold breaches.
- Learn and support synthetic monitoring use cases, including ping checks, browser-based monitoring, and scripted API monitors.
- Analyze historical performance data to identify trends, anomalies, and recurring issues.
- Collaborate with engineering, architecture, and platform teams to understand application flows and monitoring requirements.
- Validate monitoring data accuracy and contribute ideas to improve dashboard usability and clarity.
- Document dashboards, KPIs, alert logic, and monitoring configurations as part of knowledge sharing and handover.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- Foundational understanding of application performance, system monitoring, or observability concepts.
- Basic knowledge of web applications, REST APIs, and client-server architecture.
- Familiarity with structured data formats such as JSON or CSV.
- Understanding of basic data analysis concepts, including metrics, trends, and thresholds.
- Basic SQL or query-language knowledge for filtering and aggregating data.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills
- Exposure to or hands-on experience with Application Performance Monitoring tools such as New Relic, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or CloudWatch.
- Familiarity with dashboards, data visualizations, or monitoring reports.
- Awareness of synthetic monitoring concepts (API monitoring, browser monitoring, scripted checks).
- Exposure to one or more programming or scripting languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, or .NET.
- Familiarity with Git or version control concepts.
- Understanding of logs, metrics, traces, and alerting fundamentals.
- Interest in proactive monitoring, system reliability, and operational excellence.
- Experience in enterprise or regulated environments is a plus but not required.
General Intern Information - Date/Location/Schedule
Internships will take place June through August, 2026 and be based in Princeton, NJ. This role will operate on a required hybrid schedule - 3 days in the office and 2 days remote per week. This role is not eligible for sponsorship.
